Dr. Cadigan has written an award-winning book Hope and Deception in Conception Bay which has established him as a leading scholar of Maritime history. He has also used census data to study merchants, families, and the state in Labrador. Dr. Cadigan is currently engaged in research and publications in the following areas: ecological culture of coastal communities, the impact of pulp-and-paper diversification on migration in coastal Newfoundland communities, forestry and ecosystem health in coastal communities, community-based marine resource management, and fisheries co-management.
