Dr. Darroch was among the first scholars in Canada to develop large-scale samples of nominative historical evidence, including the first national sample from the 1871 census. Dr. Darroch was also one of the principal investigators of the Canadian Families Project based on a national sample of the 1901 census. He has contributed to the social history of families, ethnic communities, property and inequality in Canada and to the international comparative analyses of historical micro data.
