Dr. ERIC SAGER

CCRI Co-Leader: Western Canada, Pacific and North

Professor of History
Director of the CFP
University of Victoria

Dr. Sager has worked on computer-based historical projects since 1976. He was a member of the Atlantic Canada Shipping Project at Memorial that created a machine-readable database (now on CD-ROM) from the Crew Agreements for Atlantic Canadian ships (1860-1914) and ship registries (1820-1914). His award-winning books Seafaring Labour and Maritime Capital completed the work of the Shipping Project. As Director of the Canadian Families Project, he supervises the creation of the national sample of the 1901 census of Canada. His latest book Unwilling Idlers (with P. Baskerville) is based on computer databases created from the 1891 and 1901 censuses of Canada.
