Dr. LORNE TEPPERMAN

Professor of Sociology
University of Toronto

Dr. Tepperman, Professor of Sociology at the University of Toronto, and former Chairman of that Department, works mainly on topics related to family life and social problems. His books on women's work and family lives -- Lives of Their Own (written with Lorna Marsden and Charles Jones, 1990), Next of Kin (edited with Susannah Wilson, 1993), The Futures of the Family (written with Charles Jones and Susannah Wilson, 1995), and Close Relations (written with Susan McDaniel, 2001, 2004; brief edition, 2002) -- use Canadian and cross-national data to examine recent changes and project them into the future. His most recent work includes a co-authored book, Social Problems: A Canadian Perspective, written with James Curtis, 2003, and an introductory textbook, Sociology: Canadian Perspectives, co-edited with James Curtis, 2004. Professor Tepperman is currently writing a textbook on deviant behaviour and a monograph on ethnic variations in gambling behaviour. Professor Tepperman received the CSAA Award for Outstanding Contribution to Canadian Sociology in 2003.
